Dear Viking Explorer!

By accessing the buttons above, we will take you into the world of the Vikings (and some of their predecessors in the Bronze and Iron Ages). Here, you will read descriptions of artifacts "...found in a bronze vessel," "found while plowing near a bog," or "found in a silver hoard on the Isle of Man." Some descriptions are prosaic; some are dramatic translations of rune stones, e.g., the fallen Viking "met his death when kings fought."

By following these stories, we hope that the men and women of the Viking Age will take on a new dimension for you. Where the literate monks, victims of Viking raids, wrote of their ferocity (with good reason), there is more to the story than just piracy. The Vikings were a civilized race, flourishing on land and sea. Their contributions to the world were enormous as they were governed by the rule of law; were master ship-builders; adventuresome navigators; colonizers; and gifted storytellers of their gods, families and exploits.

We present in these pages, above all, their skilled craftsmanship and we follow their tradition by offering this unique collection of historically authentic Viking artifacts in replica.

Our jewelry is made by the distinguished Danish silversmiths, TURM A/S, who have supplied jewelry replicas to Scandinavian museum shops since 1983 using moulds from the Danish National and other Nordic museums. The Museum curators have approved the jewelry descriptions so you are assured of authenticity. PLEASE NOTE: OWING TO THE EXTREME VOLATILITY OF GOLD PRICES, WE ASK THAT YOU CONTACT US PRIOR TO ORDERING ANY ITEM IN GOLD.

In other sections of our Website, you will discover exciting items such as Viking king figurines (and even fridge magnets!); Viking Age chess sets; Viking drinking horns; a model of a Viking ship; a Valkyrie amulet; a restored Viking tapestry reproduction; bronze statues of Odin, Thor and Frey; or a gift certificate so your special person may select his or her own gift.

Ordering Information. We provide several options for ordering: the PayPal shopping cart or, if you prefer, click on the Order/Contact Us button for several other options including mail, fax or our toll-free line: 1.800.842.1676.

We are family-owned in the U.S. and in Denmark and take a personal interest in maintaining high standards of authenticity, high quality and the reliable Danish service you expect.

And remember, you need not be Nordic to enjoy the magnificent artistic culture represented by this Viking collection.

Hammer

A Thor's Hammer of the Viking Age, about A.D. 1000. This hammer was found at Romersdal on Bornholm Island, Denmark. Just as Christians use a cross as a symbol, the Viking pagans (both men and women) used the hammer of their popular god Thor as a decoration and amulet. The original is in the Danish National Museum, Copenhagen. A replica is available in our website under Pendants & Brooches.

Med venlig hilsen!

A Viking chieftain of the Ravens of Odin and his standard bearer

The Ravens of Odin Viking Re-enactment Group. The Viking Trader is proud to be the merchant member of this group, which has done considerable research in documents from the Viking Age to develop their costumes and accoutrements to a high degree of historical authenticity. In 2008, they will set up an elaborate encampment and perform activities and demonstrations of the Viking Age for children and adults at:

* The Scandinavian Festival, California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, California, 19 - 20 April 08
* Danish Days at Solvang, California, 12, 13, 14 September 08

* Also, we attended the California Lutheran University's annual Nordic Spirit Symposium on 8 & 9 February 2008. This year's presentation featured distinguished guest speakers and music with the theme: Myths, Digs and Saga Kings: A New Look at the Viking Age. It was an impressive event as are all of the Nordic Spirit Symposia held at the University. You may contact Allan Carlson for information about the February 2009 Symposium: 1-818-788-4552 or email: seeallan@sbcglobal.net We hope to see you there next year!
